Activities that empower residents happen because of you

“Keeping Connected” was the theme for the 2016 National Assisted Living Week which takes place every September. Hawthorn House residents enjoyed a week of special activities designed around the “Keeping Connected” theme.

“Residents enjoyed the technology related activities this year,” Hawthorn House Activities Director, Theresa Alexander, said. “The annual luncheon cruise in the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Ms. Southern Belle pageant are the most popular events of the Assisted Living Week.”

Residents participated in a Wii bowling tournament and used the Wii to play games that help with balance. Residents learned how to Skype with their family members, and the Activities Department created a closed Facebook group just for residents and their family members. Photos of activities and events will be shared in this special online group.

Hawthorn House was also the host for the annual Southern Belle Pageant. Six residents from local assisted living residences, including Hawthorn House, competed in the pageant to win the title of Southern Belle Queen. Hawthorn House resident Loreanner Brown, was crowned the 2016 Southern Belle Queen.
