Support Needed for Older Adult Evacuees Temporarily Housed at Bob Hope Village and Hawthorn House

Shalimar, Florida (September 7, 2017) – Residents and staff members from assisted living facilities who are evacuating due to Hurricane Irma will be temporarily housed by the Air Force Enlisted Village at Bob Hope Village and Hawthorn House in Shalimar.
The local community is asked to provide assistance for the older adults with donations.
Due to strict state health codes and dietary restrictions, homemade food and beverage items cannot be accepted.
Monetary gifts are needed most to purchase the necessary food and supplies for the evacuees’ care that may last up to 10 days.
Donations of all sizes are appreciated and $5 or $10 will go a long way to help. Donations can be made at www.afev.us/give, or dropped off at or mailed to Air Force Enlisted Village Headquarters, 92 Sunset Lane, Shalimar, FL 32579.
At this time, the following specific items will be accepted at Bob Hope Village Commons, 30 Holly Ave., Shalimar:
- Bottled water
- Bladder control products of all sizes for men and women
- Baby wipes
- Paper towels
- Disposable plates, cups, utensils and cutlery
- Small and large trash bags
Donations of restaurant catered meals are appreciated and will be accepted by coordination with VaTema Ivy, Hawthorn House Dining Services Director, at 660-563-0581.
Musicians, counselors, massage therapists, and prayer leaders who can volunteer to provide activities and entertainment must be coordinated by the activities department by leaving a message for Christina Knight, Hawthorn House Activities Coordinator, at 850-609-2550 ext. 220.
