In 2005, the missing link in the continuum of care at the Air Force Enlisted Village (AFEV) was completed. Hawthorn House, AFEV’s 64-apartment assisted living facility, provides a home for residents who need a bit of extra help with day-to-day tasks, but who still wish to live independently.
In 2011, the memory care wing at Hawthorn House was opened, featuring 16 apartments and a specialized program for residents coping with memory-related health issues.
On November 10, 2015, the Air Force Enlisted Village will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hawthorn House with a reception for residents, their families, staff, and special guests. “We are proud to offer the finest in assisted living and memory care, and we are committed to providing the highest quality of life to our AFEV residents,” said Leigh Rice, Hawthorn House Administrator. “At Hawthorn House, residents’ needs are safely and professionally met by a loving and supported staff.”
Assisted living gives older adults the freedom to continue to live independently without the worries of housekeeping, cooking, or managing medication. Our Hawthorn House staff prepare three healthy meals a day and provide assistance with health care, laundry, transportation, and maintenance services as well as simple phones for seniors. Although our staff is always available to help, we encourage independence first.
Additionally, being a part of Bob Hope Village allows our residents to connect with others who share their military background. Residents can participate in daily social activities, including fitness programs, games, and seasonal festivities, as well as utilize our transportation services for shopping, medical needs, and entertainment purposes.
Hawthorn House also offers in-house salon services, on-site outpatient physical, speech, and occupational therapy, chapel services, and planned outings and social events. Thanks to the support of generous donors and volunteers, we plan to continue our current programs and look forward to the future progression of Hawthorn House and the Air Force Enlisted Village community. Thank you for ten great years and counting!
