Eglin and Hurlburt Airmen Plan CMSAF James C. Binnicker Memorial 9K

The inaugural CMSAF Binnicker Memorial 9K Run will be held on August 29 at 7:00 a.m. at Bob Hope Village in Shalimar.

The idea for the CMSAF Binnicker 9K evolved from a group of Eglin AFB airmen who are running the Air Force Marathon in September at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. The Air Force Enlisted Village is a charity partner for the marathon and the airmen are running on the AFEV’s team to raise funds and awareness.

“The idea for this event originated when I was training for the Air Force marathon. Long distance running provides plenty of opportunities to think. I thought it would be great to do a fundraiser 5K run for the Air Force Enlisted Village,” Capt. John Richardson said. “After Chief Binnicker passed away, the event became a great way to honor his life and his service to our Air Force family and the Village.

Richardson also recruited airmen from Hurlburt Field to help plan the event that will start at Bob Hope Village and take runners through parts of Poquito Bayou.

“The run has evolved from a small 5K idea into a grand 9K event,” Richardson said. “Our committee chose to do a 9K because Binnicker was the 9th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force.”

Binnicker spent his last 15 years as the Air Force Enlisted Village’s president and CEO caring for the Air Force family, providing a safe, secure home for surviving spouses of enlisted retired Air Force heroes, and ensuring that no Air Force surviving spouse would be refused a home at the Village due to financial need.

The 9K event also includes a one-mile fun run that will loop around the Bob Hope Village campus, food and refreshments, music, an awards ceremony, and more.
