You Change Lives and We Thank You

Your kindness gives hope to our Air Force surviving spouses at Bob Hope Village and Hawthorn House where staff treat residents with the respect reserved for their own moms

Low pay and frequent military moves leave some surviving spouses of our retired enlisted airmen without careers, home equities, retirement plans or significant assets. Air Force surviving spouses requiring financial assistance live at Bob Hope Village or Hawthorn House among peers sharing memories of military life without the stigma normally associated with subsidized housing. Your gifts ensure that these very special residents will have a home they need. A home they deserve.

At Bob Hope Village and Hawthorn House, staff treats our beloved residents with the respect they would reserve for their own moms. Fifteen years ago, former President and CEO, CMSAF #9 James C. Binnicker, instituted a philosophy known as “The Mom Rule” to ensure that all residents are treated with respect and dignity. “The Mom Rule” suggests that all AFEV employees ask themselves these three questions when working with residents or making a decision about a resident’s care:

  1. Would I do this to my mom?
  2. Would I do this for my mom?
  3. Would my mom approve?

You provide the safety and security surviving spouses need. The Mom Rule is the guarantee.
