Blue Star Memorial By-Way Unveiling at Bob Hope Village, March 21, 10:00 AM

May 20, 2018

Airmen of the Past, Present and Future will be represented

The Air Force Enlisted Village welcomes the Garnier Beach Garden Club for the unveiling of a Blue Star Memorial By-Way sign located at Bob Hope Village on Wednesday, March 21 at 10:00 A.M. on the lawn in front of the Bob Gates Welcome Center at 92 Sunset Lane, Shalimar.

The Blue Star Memorial Highway Program was adopted by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. with a marker designed in 1947. Originally a way to honor WWII veterans, the mission now includes all men and women who have served, were serving, or would serve in the armed forces of the United States.

Bob Hope Village resident Joan Pratt will serve as MC for the event, and as an Air Force Reserves retiree, will also represent an airman from the past. A member of Choctaw High School’s Junior ROTC program will represent an airman of the present. An active duty airman is also scheduled to attend to represent the current force.

The By-Way marker program was approved for use in 1981 and is specifically designated for parks, and civic and historical grounds.
