When Edith first moved to Air Force Enlisted Village (AFEV)over a decade ago, she embraced this new chapter of her life at Bob Hope Village, our independent living community.
As the widow of a USAF aircraft mechanic who retired in 1972, she was used to a life of service and resilience. For ten years, Edith enjoyed independent living, forming friendships, and engaging in countless activities that made her days joyful and fulfilling.
Now, at 90, Edith resides at Hawthorn House, our assisted living neighborhood, where she continues to thrive. Whether she’s participating in arts and crafts, riding her electric chair to our convenience store, or playing cards with new friends, Edith’s life remains vibrant and full of laughter!
Hawthorn House provides top-tier health services and supportive care while giving our residents like Edith plenty of opportunities for social enrichment to make every day enjoyable.
Three times a day, Edith gathers with other residents for good, healthy meals and great conversation – finding comfort in the support and camaraderie of living here at AFEV.
The warmth Edith feels from other residents and staff, the friendships she treasures, and the host of activities she still enjoys at her age wouldn’t be possible without the kindness and commitment of friends like you.
At AFEV, we believe staying active and engaged is crucial for the health and happiness of our residents. Our lifestyle programs ensure that residents like Edith enjoy their golden years, not just with comfort, but also with purpose and connection.
From organized games and arts and crafts to community outings and exercise classes, our caring staff works tirelessly to provide a range of activities that meet the needs and interests of each resident.
Edith often finds herself in the atrium at Hawthorn House, sitting by the fireplace with her colored pencils and coloring book – a peaceful moment that brings her joy.
Edith recently said, “I haven’t quite gotten used to this yet. I just sit down, and my food is served to me! I feel so cared for living here.”
Her words are a reminder of how crucial Hawthorn House services are to assisted living and memory care residents. They no longer need to worry about preparing meals, maintaining a home, or managing medication. Instead, they can focus on enjoying life.
Thank you for being a part of our family and for the kindness you extend to our military widows like Edith. It’s true, we couldn’t do this important work without YOU!
